Since our founding in 2001, Nomensa has grown into an internationally renowned user experience agency with a reputation for exceptional thinking and design delivery. Our pioneering team is united by one goal: to deliver experience excellence for all our customers.
We structure our strategies around real emotions and behaviours. We do this by capitalising on our cutting-edge research capabilities and in-house labs. The insights garnered through user testing inform our creations, resulting in data driven designs that our developers bring to life. We centralise humans in everything we do and generate incredible digital experiences that millions of people interact with every day.
Our values
Be bold
We are brave. We never look to accept things just for what they are. It’s about defining what they could and should be. Being bold leads us to new creative territories. It frees our thoughts and allows us to imagine further than the present. In being bold and courageous, we ask ‘how far can we take this’?
Be human
We are human-centric. Understanding why people think and behave as they do is present in everything we do. We firmly believe in designing for everyone and won’t deliver something that doesn’t stand up to that belief. Equally, we partner with our clients and work collaboratively to drive value and create passion as part of our working culture. Inclusivity, a passion for what we do and making a measurable difference are all central to our mission to humanise technology.
Think bigger
Knowledge underpins our expertise. It’s what stimulates us to learn more and motivates us to share what we learn with both clients and our peers. It’s a celebrated part of our heritage. Equally, our strong use of research allows us to see the bigger picture and ensure that we are rigorous with it. But we don’t stop there. We combine insight, expertise and innovation in a way that enables us to think bigger.
Our people
Our team is truly full of brilliant, passionate and imaginative people. We’re proud to be a 51% female organisation, with 51/49 gender split on our board of directors. Founded in 2001 by Sally Lincoln, Alastair Campbell and Simon Norris, our founders continue to lead the business, and are regularly in our Bristol office keeping in touch with our teams and projects.
Our team has grown to 140 employees in 2022, across Bristol, London and Amsterdam. We have practitioners across UX Research, UX Design, Experience Delivery, Accessibility, Technology and Development, ranging from graduates to senior specialists. Our Business & Client Services teams include Finance, IT, People, Marketing, Project Management, Delivery, Bids, New Business and Account Handling.
Employee wellbeing
The wellbeing of our people is of paramount importance to us, and ‘being human’ is one of our core values. So, we have a range of support in place for our people, including a healthcare cashplan scheme for everyday health expenses, which gives access to 24 hour EAP service, structured counselling sessions, a mindfulness app and a range of health and financial advice. We have a team of trained Mental Health First Aiders (our Wellbeing Officers) who are on hand to signpost support and advice for our employees who may be facing challenges and need support.
We like to regularly celebrate each other, with weekly shoutouts via our ‘Let’s Recognise’ scheme to recognise exceptional work, a day off for our birthdays, annual company awards at our Summer Conference and other socials organised by our Chief Happiness Officers. Our Chief Happiness Officers are a specially created in-house team dedicated to keeping our employees smiling, and have a reputation for organising events including a Tetris Competition, lunch and games on Queen’s Square and virtual quizzes!
Growing talent in the sector
We have welcomed several graduates, apprentices and work experience placements to Nomensa, many of whom have gone on to further their careers with us. Our graduate programme supports talent across UX, Design, Experience Delivery, and in response to the business growing and diversifying, we’re proud to be offering our first Development & Technology Graduate roles in 2022.
We’ve had wonderful success with recruiting apprentices in to Nomensa, with many going on to develop their careers with Nomensa. Imogen joined us as a Studio Apprentice in 2019 before moving to our marketing team. She said:
Supporting personal and professional development
We’re committed to the continuous improvement of our company and our people. We continue to introduce a number of processes and initiatives, so that our employees can grow and develop with us, whether employees are looking for development through promotion, or becoming a deep specialist in their profession, we support our employees’ aspirations. If you’re eager to improve, then we want to give you the tools, training and agency to be the best version of yourself.
We champion career growth and don’t just want you to flourish – we actively take steps to make it happen. That’s one of the reasons why we’ve been awarded Gold from the Investors in People Standard for so many years running which is something only a few UK businesses can claim.
Just some of the ways we can support you in your career development:
- We work with a diverse and exciting range of clients across the public, private and not-for-profit sector
- We have invested in a dedicated professional development platform, Clear Review, which supports our employees’ development through regular conversations and objectives setting.
- We have an internal recognition scheme where anyone can be nominated
- We invest in both internal and external training
- We have an open plan office so that everyone – from the founders to line managers – are visible and around for guidance (or even just a chat)
Plus, there are always opportunities to support our thought-leadership, whether you want to write a blog, host a webinar or speak at one of our amazing events.
Our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
Nomensa’s Equality, Diversity & Inclusion group are made up of volunteers from across the company who are passionate about creating an environment where all employees can bring their whole selves to work. This working group is open to all employees, and meets fortnightly to place E,D&I at the heart of our mission, by improving our processes, organising events and socials and educating the wider business on our progress. We believe that inclusion is essential to delivering our best work and Nomensa are committed to recognising where we can improve and taking action.
